Psalm 73:23-28 (NKJV) Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. For indeed, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all those who desert You for harlotry. But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all Your works.

Psalm 16:5 (HCSB) Lord, You are my portion and my cup of blessing; You hold my future.

Lamentations 3:22-26 (NKJV) Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.  It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Phil 4:12-13 (HCSB) I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content--whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.

A couple of weeks ago during our revival Bishop Vincent kept saying, “Sickness is not your portion. Cancer is not your portion.” I really loved that word portion and it stuck with me and I have been thinking about that ever since.  So, if sickness is not my portion what is my portion?

Then today I read Lamentation 3 – not a book of the Bible that I often read but there is that word again – portion. I really like this word. And then I read Psalm 73 and it really spoke to my heart.

Can you answer without hesitation where your strength comes from when all around all you see is chaos, strife, death, uncertainty, discourse, fear, doubt, envy, hate, etc… So, whether you have the best or the worst of anything…. Whether you have the dream home, ideal job or working environment… if I have money in the bank or I don’t have money in the bank… that is what Paul was talking about in Phil 4:12-13. It doesn’t matter what is going on around me because I have Him in me and because He infuses me with inner-strength, therefore - through Him, I can do all things. Because He is my very portion.

My security, my inheritance, my source IS God. Everything that I need is found in Him. So I can stand confidently and strong and say nevertheless He is with me, He is holding my right hand; I can wait on Him to move and go before me because He holds my future and I can put all of my trust in Him. He is it. He is the answer. Why would I desire anything on earth above Him who created all things? Why would I want to do anything without Him or not wait for His direction? Today, let’s honor and glorify Him and call upon Him to be our portion. He is all we need today and forever.
